It seems that several things are nonstandard on your system. > CFLAGS="-March=native -O2 -pipe -m64 -fPIC" This looks bad and should be changed, but is probably not the cause of your problem. See http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/howtos/index.xml?part=1&chap=3 After removing -fPIC, rebuilding xorg-server, mesa and x11-drivers/* is a good idea. > video=uvesafb:mttr,ywrap,1366x768-32@85 This is very bad, uvesafb and the intel driver do not mix. Do not use any FB drivers in combination with KMS. Disable them in your kernel if necessary. > pcie_aspm=force This could lead to problems but these would likely show up in dmesg too. If you fixed all the above issues and the problem still exists, try to get a proper backtrace as described in http://www.x.org/wiki/Development/Documentation/ServerDebugging
The -fPIC was because every program failed to emerge and told me "Rebuild with -fPIC". I am unable to build xorg-server - with and withoud -fPIC ...
And yes, I will remove the flags ... I see: spixxi mari # dmesg | grep ASPM PCIe ASPM is forcibly enabled ACPI FADT declares the system doesn't support PCIe ASPM, so disable it ACPI _OSC control for PCIe not granted, disabling ASPM I think this lilo.conf is better?? lba32 boot=/dev/sda map=/boot/.map install=/boot/boot-menu.b menu-scheme=Wb prompt timeout=50 delay=50 vga=normal default="Gentoo_3.6.11" initrd = /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-3.6.11-gentoo image = /boot/kernel-3.6.11-gentoo label = "Gentoo_3.6.11" root = /dev/sda1 append = "rootfstype=btrfs root=/dev/sda1 real_root=/dev/sda1" read-only
Still doesn't work ... I compiled Xorg with -02 ... Do you think debugging is possible with 02 ???
Do you need some info from /sys/kernel/debug/dri/ ?
I am unable to compile xorg-server and mine is build w/o debug symbols. What shall I do? spixxi mari # gdb X GNU gdb (Gentoo 7.5 p1) 7.5 Copyright (C) 2012 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Not sure whether havon "March=native" in CFLAGS instead of the correct "-march=native" will mess up things, but the build error is due to other stuff compiled with -fPIC which xorg-server needs to build against. For the reasons mentioned in comment 6, I'd call your setup unsupportable and you have to sort out the three issues mentioned there before we can further look into this.
2 and 3 are fixed and no I did not compile everything with -PIC. There are only a few programs I did compile with this (e. g. udev). My processor model is an Intel Core i5-3320M. I re-emerged the following applications and it still does not work: dev-libs/openssl media-libs/freetype x11-apps/iceauth x11-apps/rgb x11-apps/xauth x11-apps/xkbcomp x11-libs/libdrm x11-libs/libpciaccess x11-libs/libXau x11-libs/libXdmcp x11-libs/libXfont x11-libs/libxkbfile x11-libs/pixman x11-libs/xtrans x11-misc/xbitmaps x11-misc/xkeyboard-config x11-libs/libX11 x11-libs/libXext media-libs/mesa x11-apps/xinit x11-proto/bigreqsproto x11-proto/compositeproto x11-proto/damageproto x11-proto/fixesproto x11-proto/fontsproto x11-proto/glproto x11-proto/inputproto x11-proto/kbproto x11-proto/randrproto x11-proto/recordproto x11-proto/renderproto x11-proto/resourceproto x11-proto/scrnsaverproto x11-proto/trapproto x11-proto/videoproto x11-proto/xcmiscproto x11-proto/xextproto x11-proto/xf86dgaproto x11-proto/xf86rushproto x11-proto/xf86vidmodeproto x11-proto/xineramaproto x11-proto/xproto x11-proto/xf86driproto x11-proto/dri2proto Can it be a problem with x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.20.13? Before the upgrade to the 3.6.11 kernel this problem did not occur either. Should I downgrade to 3.5.7 again?
I think this problem is related to GCCs visibility attribute. Neither ld.bfd nor ld.gold are able to understand it - strange or may this problem be related to lto (link time optimization)? binutils 2.22-r1 gcc 4.5.4
Works now. Had to recompile gcc and dragonegg to avoid the issues with the visibility attribute. Then I had to recompile mesa and xorg-server. Now it works.
