using the 2004.0 x86 universal live cd. start with the 'gentoo' kernel, you get 2.4.x with device mapper. all the lvm tools are version 2. start with the 'smp' kernel, you get 2.6. all the lvm tools are version 2. so there is no way to create a version 1 lvm with the live cd. we should not be forcing users to use lvm2.
I disagree; LVM1 is hardly maintained anymore. The LVM developers really want everyone to use LVM2 due to its massive amount of advantages it has (both internal as feature-wise). Plus LVM1 users can easily migrate to LVM2.
if it is possible though, we should still have backwards dependency. beejay?
Impossible. Kernel-2.6 only supports Version 2. So imho it's better to step over to LVM2 now and leave LVM alone. As Swift said, LVM can easily migrate to LVM2.
