Description Dead Schorsch 2004-03-16 05:42:18 UTC
gnome-terminal 2.4.2 uses UTF-8 character encoding by default, which causes trouble in a German enviroment affecting Umlaut and quotes displaying. The "Terminal -> Zeichenkodierung" menu (should be "Terminal -> Character encoding") displays "Momentan verwendete Standort-Einstellung UTF-8" (probably something like "current locale settings") as first and selected entry.

gconf-edit displays content of key "/apps/gnome-terminal/global/active encodings" as ISO-8859-1, ISO-8859-15.

Maybe this problem is related to the latest gdm update, which caused my locale settings to be resetted to English which I switched back to German immediatly.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. start gnome-terminal
2. use "ls" to show directory contents, where dates right now should show "M
