Description Mike 2004-03-15 03:49:57 UTC
Just hoping that this patch might make the xfree 4.3.99.xxx branch because xfree themselves won't add it until the 4.4.0.xxx branch (which it looks like we won't get in gentoo because of gpl probs!)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Emerge newest xfree in portage (masked version, the ~x86 version doesn't have via drivers)
2.Set gfx driver to 'VIA' (Currently only 'VESA' works)
3.

Actual Results:
Blank screen on 'startx' despite everything running behind it perfectly happily.

Expected Results:
Nice shiny desktop

Please read the attached link for the original patch submission to xfree and all
other information. I am not the creator of this patch. Just a caring gentoo user
who wants to use his laptop without using the troublesome 4.4.xxx series of xfree.

Is this resolved in xorg-x11?

Sorry for time taken.

No, as of latest xorg (by latest i mean ~x86) the symptoms are the same. Have been using VESA for now.
