configure of opendx failed because i had package szip not installed. additionally, emerge of szip-1.1.ebuild was not complete because shared library was not installed, configure needs a "-s" to compile the shared lib. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -C szip 2. emerge opendx 3. fails! Actual Results: configure of opendx fails w/o any helpful message Expected Results: install opendx i emerged szip, but shared lib libsz.so.* was still not there. i manually re-installed szip with "configure -s", configure/emerge of opendx then worked. ost@valinor ost $ emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1, 2.4.22-gentoo-r4) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.22-gentoo-r4 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.13p1 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mcpu=athlon -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=athlon -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aalib alsa apm arts avi berkdb cdr cjk crypt cups dga directfb dvd encode esd ethereal fbcon foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 guile imlib java jikes jpeg kde libg++ libwww lirc mad mikmod motif mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime radeon readline sdl slang spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tiff truetype usb video_cards_radeon x86 xml2 xmms xv zlib"
Strange, building OpenDX with just the static lib there worked fine for me. Updated it nevertheless... just test-building OpenDX, that will take a while, but the missing dep will be there soon. Thanks for the hint.
