I tried to use a TrueType font in GIMP, but I kept getting ragged edges.
I noticed in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file that the FontPath setting for TrueType was in capital letters and the directory name was in little letters.

TrueType FontPath in XF86Config wrong. 
'FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TrueType/"' should be
'FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/"'

The TrueType fonts are smooth. There are no ragged edges.

We don't provide an XF86Config, how'd you generate yours?
