configure.ac:5: version mismatch. This is Automake 1.11.6,
configure.ac:5: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.ac:5: comes from Automake 1.9.3. You should recreate
configure.ac:5: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.
/usr/share/automake-1.11/am/depend2.am: am__fastdepCCAS does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL
/usr/share/automake-1.11/am/depend2.am: The usual way to define `am__fastdepCCAS' is to add `AM_PROG_AS'
/usr/share/automake-1.11/am/depend2.am: to `configure.ac' and run `aclocal' and `autoconf' again.
tests/Makefile.am:19: compiling `test_atomic.c' with per-target flags requires `AM_PROG_CC_C_O' in `configure.ac'

I have this issue as well. It will fail when other packages are built during the same emerge run. If you start the build over, I assume some cache gets cleared and fixes the issue. But I can confirm that this IS a bug.

this is fixed with libatomic-7.2d
