Description Victor Mataré 2012-12-06 22:49:23 UTC
Upstream bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306964

Apparently there's a communication problem between kmail and some imap servers when negotiating which encryption to use. I've been affected by this since 4.9.1 and the just stabilized 4.9.3 will bring this to stable users, as well. Going back is probably not an option, so I guess this means stabilize 4.9.4 as soon as possible.

Reproducible: Always

I updated to 4.9.4, and since that update one of my gmail accounts (the one I use most and really need :() is nearly unusable with kmail. Somehow the akonadi-resource loses connection, gives me a weird error message ("resource offline" - don't know if it's that mythical bug that now starts to hit me once upstream told it was fixed...) and fails to reestablish connection. As soon as I cancel the dialog the resource crashes and ALL IMAP (possibly even every) akonadi resource fails to operate, I need to restart akonadi.

I agree this is not fixed in 4.9.4.

Depending on which upstream bug you look at, the problem is with KDE, Qt, OpenSSL or the mail server itself. :D

if it's not fixed, how about collecting some info and re-submitting upstream?

It is since working fine here, let's close for now until someone can reproduce further.
