many packages are missing description Reproducible: Always Actual Results: http://packages.gentoo.org/package/net-print/hplip and many others don't have description Expected Results: hplip has description HP Linux Imaging and Printing. Includes printer, scanner, fax drivers and service tools. http://packages.gentoo.org/package/dev-lang/python has description An interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language
My guess is this is EAPI 5 related. Packages with only 1 ebuild that is EAPI 5 enabled lack descriptions. -A
IMHO packages missing a valid description should not be included in the main portage until such time that they do have one, as nowadays I do have no clue what a package is as there is no description and quite many also lacks a home page which makes it even more difficult to know what the package offers.

The packages have descriptions, they are just not rendered on packages.gentoo.org, due to a bug. -A
it seems to be fixed
