When I try to emerge gnome 3.4 I am stuck with the following block:

<sys-apps/shadow-4.1.5-r1" is blocking sys-auth/pambase-20120417-r1

Please resolve

Not a bug. You just need to update your sys-apps/shadow to version 4.1.5-r1 or later. Both pambase-20120417-r1 and shadow-4.1.5.1 are keyworded ~amd64 (I am assuming you are using amd64 since you added it to the CC list), so there should be no problem in performing this update.

In general, portage should perform the update automatically, but depending on how you are calling emerge (e.g. if you are not using the "--deep" switch) and what you have in your world file, its dependency resolver can get confused a bit, and in that case you will see this message.

Be aware that if you are mixing stabilization levels (for example, you want to install some ~amd64 packages on a system that has ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=amd64 in make.conf), it's up to you to determine which additional ~amd64 packages, like sys-apps/shadow, would need to be keyworded in order to satisfy all needed dependencies.

PS. You don't need to add yourself to the CC list in those bug reports that you yourself had created.
