Description Joseph 2012-11-19 05:33:01 UTC
I've upgraded to xorg-server-1.13.0 run
emerge -1av $(qlist -I -C x11-drivers)

but I don't get any display not even a command line, I have to log-in via ssh.
I've downgraded to xorg-server-1.12.2 run:
emerge -1av $(qlist -I -C x11-drivers)

The system appears to be booting OK, no errors during compilations but I get a black screen, no login manager, I'm using "slim" tried "xdm" as well nothing helps.

my make.conf
...
INPUT_DEVICES="evdev"
VIDEO_CARDS="nouveau tdfx vesa fbdev"

Reproducible: Always

Comment 4 Joseph 2012-11-19 14:00:47 UTC
I don't know what might have triggered this strange behaviour; but it happend right after yesterday's upgrade.

I don't even have a log-in screen, all I see is some kind of big background letter "S" or "5" black on white.

strange display

Here is a screen shot what I see when computer boots.
Comment 6 Joseph 2012-11-19 20:02:47 UTC
I've switched to "nvidia" but with anything in xorg.conf I get a blank screen.
If xorg.conf is empty I X starts but I gen ugly big fonts.

How to automaticaly generate xorg.conf with nvidia, do I need one at all?
Comment 7 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2015-02-23 01:22:49 UTC
I suspect this has been fixed, whatever the problem was.

If not, please file a bug upstream at bugs.freedesktop.org.
