After emerging jargon I found that I had the following directory structure under /usr/share/doc/jargon-4.4.7:

Running some diffs I concluded that some of these are not needed (spefically, only the stuff in the second level html directory is needed and all the other stuff can be dropped from the install).

Totally agree.  Fixed in CVS.  Resync and remerge for the cleaner install.
