During an install from the 2004.0 LiveCD, unpacking a stage tarball onto a newly created ReiserFS partition causes the kernel to oops. I encountered this on a Digital Audio G4, booted with the uniprocessor G4 kernel. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Follow the instructions in the Gentoo handbook installation manual for a PPC install from the 2004.0 LiveCD, up to and including unpacking a stage tarball. Use a new root partition formatted as ReiserFS. Actual Results: Kernel oopses and dies. Expected Results: Tarball contents are extracted and written to the ReiserFS partition and nothing crashes. :)
I'll test ppc reiserfs installs with the 2004.1 livecd and close this bug if fixed. 2004.1 is going to be released by the end of april. I might provide an updated bootable livecd if more problems arise Note to livecd@g.o: I'm not part of the livecd@g.o alias
any updates ? 2004.1 is out the door and 2004.2 is coming up
We had gentoo-dev-sources instead of ppc-development-sources on the 2004.1 cd. This should be fixed together with the missing xfs utils.
