In the guide for setting up a 32-bit chroot, it says to run: xhost +localhost I was able to get this to work with: xhost +local: Maybe you could suggest this to save people time Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: xhost +localhost Actual Results: programs could not connect to the xserver from within the chroot emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-amd64-2004.0, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.2-r9, 2.6.3-mm4) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.3-mm4 x86_64 4 Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.13 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.58-r1 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.7.8 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-pipe -O2" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-pipe -O2" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa amd64 apm arts avi berkdb crypt encode esd foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 imlib jpeg libg++ libwww mikmod motif mozilla mpeg multilib mysql ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl tcltk tcpd truetype usb xml2 xmms xv zlib"
when you say 'does not work' do you mean 'when i ran `xhost +localhost` it gave me an error <blah blah>' or do you mean 'when i tried to run some command that tried to connect to the X server it failed with error messages about access denied' ?
that's right, "xhost +localhost" does not work... That's an error in the technotes, it should be "xhost +local:" or "xhost +local:localhost"...
already fixed
