Please bump to 0.64 http://joeyh.name/code/etckeeper/ published about 2 months ago.
I made an update to patch because fails to apply and add the cronjob included upstream but not installed in 0.63 ebuild.

also, there are no interesting changes in 0.64, just some for opensuse and debian which do not affect us
