The current xinetd file provided by any version of media-gfx/sane-backends uses the service name 'saned' which isn't defined in /etc/services (checked for baselayout 2.1 and 2.2), neither as primary name, nor as alias. This results in the following syslog message when enabling the service and starting xinetd: Port not specified and can't find service: saned with getservbyname This can be fixed by changing the 1st line of files/saned resp. /etc/xinetd.d/saned from: service saned to service sane-port This is not an upstream problem, as the xinetd file is provided by Gentoo through ${FILESDIR}/saned
Yep, I messed it up. The user supplied file I modified was ok. Will fix it soon, but am too busy right now, sorry.
Silently corrected since this will affect only very few users. Thanks for the hint.
