a backtrace would help (gdb gnome-cd then type "run" , when it crashes type "bt")

other interesting output is that of :
strace gnome-cd

whats interesting from this is in the strace log:

open("/dev/cdroms/cdrom0", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = 19
ioctl(19, 0x5326, 0x7fffffff) = 4
ioctl(19, 0x530b, 0xbfffe340) = 0
ioctl(19, 0x5313, 0xbfffe33c) = 0
close(19) = 0
open("/dev/cdroms/cdrom0", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = 19
close(19) = 0

Why does it get 19 there? every other open it gets 0... something happend? I don't really know, anyone else?
Comment 5 Alastair Tse (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-12 02:45:37 UTC
emm, doesn't open return a file descriptor? it is supposed to return a non-zero number that corresponds to the file descriptor
