Users need to load a module to get their network adapter working:

modprobe aiport
modprobe sungem
...

Pylon, could you come up with a list of what modules are needed on what machine?
modprobe therm_pm72 for G5 power management,... G4 windtunnel has a few thermal related modules too. These don't get autoloaded
