Since openelec.tv is quiet active I figured we could use their xbmc source release instead of the official one (which seems does not get updated) from http://sources.openelec.tv/devel/ There is 11.0.3 available there which I guess is 11 with some patches back-ported from Git.
... and if someone is interested, here is how openelec.tv builds it and the other "few" patches it applies on it: https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/tree/openelec-2.0/packages/mediacenter/xbmc
hrm, i'm not sure. i'd have to see some info on their backport policy and the quality of the repo overall. if they aren't tards, and aren't adding custom patches, then should be ok. custom patches probably will be more of a non-starter ...
I'm not sure about their backport policy, but what I see from their package directory is that they are not adding custom patches in their release of the xbmc tarball.
bummer, they are creating tarballs out of https://github.com/Pulse-Eight/xbmc using https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/blob/openelec-2.0/tools/mkpkg/mkpkg_xbmc-eden . So, there are probably random patches on it :-(
closing this as WONTFIX according to comment "custom patches probably will be more of a non-starter". Sorry for the noise, would have been nice, though.
