emerging gnumeric failed with the following error: "sh: line 1: indent: command not found"

emerging dev-util/indent solved the problem

can you give us more output (attach full log) ? This is not very useful, always be as verbose as possible in reports.

it still misses the output _before_ the indent warnings.

You must have removed dev-util/indent for some reason because it's dependency is implied by ORBit.
