Comment 1 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-10 20:16:21 UTC
Upgraded from which version to 1.8.15.1? Does it occur on 1.8.17.0?
Comment 2 Joseph 2012-10-11 00:03:34 UTC
I've upgraded from asterisk-1.8.13.1 to 1.8.15.1
I just compiled and tired asterisk-1.8.17.0 but I'm getting the same repeated error on the command line:

[Oct 10 18:02:26] ERROR[24038]: iax2-provision.c:266 iax_provision_version: ast_db_get failed to retrieve iax/provisioning/cache
[Oct 10 18:03:15] ERROR[24039]: iax2-provision.c:266 iax_provision_version: ast_db_get failed to retrieve iax/provisioning/cache
Comment 3 Joseph 2012-10-11 01:30:58 UTC
I was trying to go back to asterisk-1.8.13.1 but it seems to me it was already removed from the portage.

Why are we rushing to stabilize the package that are buggy and removing that ones that are relatively bug free and working correctly?
Comment 4 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-11 08:32:37 UTC
Because there were security vulnerabilities in those versions, serious enough to warrant the allocation of CVE numbers and the publication of bulletins on Asterisk.org?
Comment 5 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-11 08:41:38 UTC
This looks to be incorrect behaviour in earlier versions, where the error return from ast_db_get was treated as success. This inversion has been applied to the 1.8 branch by Jonathan Rose:
https://code.asterisk.org/code/changelog/asterisk?cs=373342

What that suggests to me is that you yourself were relying on "buggy" behaviour, and likely have IAX2 caching or provisioning features enabled without configuring them. If you have no need for them, you should disable them.
This is user error.
Comment 6 Joseph 2012-10-11 13:13:01 UTC
How do I disable "IAX2 caching or provisioning features"?
Comment 7 Joseph 2012-10-11 14:55:45 UTC
This is a valid bug.
Here is a copy of message I receive from Mr. Matthew Jordan of Digium, Inc.
-----copy--------
I believe your issue was reported in ASTERISK-20337, and should be fixed
in the current 1.8 branch. You can either test with a checkout from
1.8, or - since this was fixed in 1.8.18.0-rc1 - test with the release
candidate.

Comment 8 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-10-11 15:01:33 UTC
This is the very bug I linked you to earlier.
Comment 9 Jaco Kroon 2012-10-11 18:00:25 UTC
Tony,

No, I'm afraid Joseph is correct (looking at the code for asterisk 1.8.15.0, it is pre-patch).

The patch there is required. The patch will be in 1.8.18.0 (currently -rc1).

@ Joseph, the error is harmless if you're not using IAX2/provisioning, as far as I can tell.

I can't see an easy way of avoiding the code path if you're using IAX/2, even though I can't find the error message in any of my logs (1.8.15.1), I do use IAX/2 to upstream, and not seeing this on either server, but as far as I can tell the provisioning code is *only* executed if you're using the iax2 provision CLI or IAXProvision AMI interfaces, or if a device explicitly requests provisioning details.
Comment 10 Joseph 2012-10-11 18:39:41 UTC
Thanks for confirming.

Yes, I this this but because I have one of Digium iaxy adapter, and this adapter is using IAX2 previsioning. When I disabled this adapter (unregister it) there are no error messages printed.
Comment 11 Jaco Kroon 2012-10-12 08:09:47 UTC
Joseph,

Tony is on leave ATM, so I'd prefer not to disturb him. We have two options.

1. You can temporarily disable the IAXy if that is acceptable; or
2. I can help you to custom patch your asterisk temporarily in order to contain the required patch.

Option 1 is obviously easier, but if you are comfortable with the shell (which I'm going to assume you are if you're using asterisk) then you can get hold of me on IRC (jkroon in #gentoo-voip on FreeNODE) and I'll gladly assist you to apply the patch to your current install until such time as Tony is available to put the patch into the ebuild.

Thanks,
Jaco
