Reproducible here
Comment 2 Naohiro Aota gentoo-dev 2012-10-08 22:04:53 UTC
I don't think converting the character code is necessary. I've confirmed that I can read the info file without converting.

Is this fixed now?

I believe this is not the correct fix. Recoding and renaming the Info files was never correct, in the first place.

Generally you can neither rename a GNU Info file (because it will break the Info direntry) nor recode it (because its internal index can contain references to character offsets in the file). This is also the reason why there is a "doinfo" but no "newinfo" command. If renaming or recoding is needed, then it must be done for the Texinfo source, and the Info file must be regenerated from that.

However, makeinfo aborts with errors when processing the source. I have to investigate.

Calling emacs -f batch-texinfo-format does the job. I've also added a dircategory, so YaTeX will appear under "Emacs" instead of "Miscellaneous" in the Info menu.
