I'm using the P4 optimized open office from the gentoo 2004.0 packages cd. If a folder called 'java' exists in my home directory, openoffice won't setup or run. This is easy to fix - make sure ~/java does not exist. Odd problem and a pain to track down! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.mkdir ~/java 2.ooffice 3. Actual Results: sh: line 1: crash_report: command not found Expected Results: open office should run To fix this problem, remove ~/java and get rid of junk files created in /tmp by the failed run. Further failures are less verbose (utterly silent!). This is a really trivial thing to fix once you know what the problem is!!!
When I create a java directory in my homedir it does work with 1.1.1b. I didn't check the installing though. In any case it is probably an upstream bug.
