This is an ebuild for vntex. Vntex is a Vietnamese support package for Tex/LaTeX.

Hi, i don't have time to look at it at the moment because of my
temporal job. I'll check and commit it next week. Sorry for the
delay. btw, could you give us sample Vietnamese tex file or something
that we can test the ebuild? Thanks in advance.
Comment 3 Nguyen Thai Ngoc Duy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-07 17:24:27 UTC
There is tests in doc/general/vntex or somewhere else in the package. If you need more tests, tell me ;)
Note that test with utf8 encoding might not work because it needs latex-unicode. Other encodings run fine

I looked into your ebuild in detail. It emerges fine but
I'll try to give you some comment.

* The version you suggested didn't exist on the site, so
I renamed the filename to vntex-20030303.ebuild.
* You may want to write
SRC_URI="mirror://sourceforge/vntex/${P}.tar.gz"
to simplify SRC_URI and make use of sf.net mirror sites.
Try to use mirror:// as much as possible if any. The list
of mirror sites defined by Gentoo is available at
  /usr/portage/profiles/thirdpartymirrors.
* I cannot find any document about the license of vntex.
Is it really GPL-2? (FYI, CTAN says the license is ``unknown'' :-( )
If you can contact the author about the license, that
would be great. We could write it as "freedist" at least.
* You shouldn't set RDEPEND by hand if it is identical to
  DEPEND. See http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/policy.xml
  chapter 5.

Besides, vntest3.tex and vntest5.tex failed to compile here
with ptex-3.1.3 (and I also have cjk-latex-4.5.2 and
latex-unicode-20030605, if that makes difference). Any thoughts?
Other tests compiled fine and they seem to show Vietnamese text
though I cannot understand what they means ;-)
Comment 5 Nguyen Thai Ngoc Duy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-16 09:19:32 UTC
Hi, the vntex author is on vacation. I intended to wait him and ask him about the license issue. But he has not been back yet :( I'm quite sure the license is GPL. I will tell you when he's back.
I compiled vntest3.tex successfully using latex, but vntest5.tex failed.
vntex runs fine for me. I'm writing my thesis using vntex, no problem so far :)
If you want to make sure the result is correct, you can send me .dvi or .ps, i will check them for you ;)

Good to know that :) I checked the ebuild is okay, but if you happen
to have some time please check attached dvi for me ;)

I added the ebuild with LICENSE="freedist" for the time being. If you
hear about its license from the author, please let us know. (and I'll
update it later)

btw, would you mind if I add you as a maintainer of the package? cjk
and text-markup team are responsible for the package but I'm afraid we
cannot solve problems related to Vietnamese. We'd appreciate it if
you would help us.
