Description burrelln 2004-03-03 11:59:15 UTC
A freshly installed gnumeri-1.2.6 gives the following error messages when first starting up. The result seems to be a mis-spaced toolbar and in the preferences dialog the captions are absent and say instead "schema missing".

To Reproduce:
1) emerge gnumeric
2) Run gnumeric:

Expected Result: Error free operation, consistent toolbar spacing, dialog box captions

Actual Result: gconf errors, overly wide toolbar spacings, no captions in preferences dialog

Error messages

** (gnumeric:22593): WARNING **: Unable to load key '/apps/gnumeric/core/file/history/n'

** (gnumeric:22593): WARNING **: Using default value '4'

** (gnumeric:22593): WARNING **: Unable to load key '/apps/gnumeric/plugins/activate-new'

** (gnumeric:22593): WARNING **: Using default value 'true'

hmm, I am unable to duplicate this behaviour.. I just build gnumeric and started it, No errors, no nothing. all toolbars appear ok.

Could you check your gconf install and your gnumeric install?

please check the files :
/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/apps/gnumeric/core/file/history/%gconf.xml and /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/apps/gnumeric/plugins/%gconf.xml

Make sure gconf is running properly:
gconftool-2 --ping
and restart gconf.

The problem was fixed by HUP'ing the gconfd daemon. Both of those files exist in /etc/gconf.
