Description Ooblick 2004-03-03 02:41:57 UTC
The current stable nvidia drivers:

media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.4496-r3 and
media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.4496

Produce X display corruption when used with FX5700 based cards. This is discussed in this forum topic:

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=110752&highlight=nvidia+5700

The fix is to use the masked ~x86 versions. However, as FX5700 cards are becoming more popular, the ~x86 versions should be marked stable so people do not have problems on first install.

The nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx versions that work with these cards are marked 1.0.5336-r1.

i also think they can be marked stable, the current stable versions don't work with kernel 2.6 as well
Comment 2 Ooblick 2004-03-16 05:35:41 UTC
Is anyone looking at this?
Comment 3 Ooblick 2004-03-16 05:48:30 UTC
Raised priority.
Comment 4 Ooblick 2004-03-23 02:55:45 UTC
Updated severity in the hope somebody takes a look at this
Comment 5 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-03-23 06:06:02 UTC
What you call the severity isn't particularly important, there are many bigger problems out there. This will be fixed as soon as possible given available manpower.

Thanks.

Adding this to the LATER pile im making for when 53* is marked stable.
Comment 7 Ooblick 2004-08-07 01:06:56 UTC
Just pop this one up again - 5 months later we're still on the old 4496 drivers for stable - which don't support a bunch of hardware. Could *one* of the later driver releases (even if its not the latest and greatest) please be marked stable so that a new build will work. Thanks.

Comment 8 Andrew Bevitt 2004-08-07 01:43:16 UTC
Well im not going to mark 6106 stable as 6111 was released as a fix for it...

The 53* series have random problems with kernel panics (the search.pci thing). So I have limited desire to do that series on stable either...

All that leaves really is the 6111 drivers, and as they only went into the tree yesterday, and effectively require someone to use a kernel > 2.6.5 im doubly reluctant to mark them as stable.

Thanks for the update. It's an unfortunate situation, but I think you're right to be cautious.
Comment 10 Andrew Bevitt 2004-08-16 05:39:08 UTC
OK I have bumped up to and including 5336 into stable...

Should be enough for now
