Description Paolo Pedroni 2012-09-17 14:44:26 UTC
Today I tried to install mesa-progs-9999 from the x11 overlay with egl, gles1 and gles2 USE flags set and it bombed out with the following error during configure phase:

checking for GLEW... no
checking GL/glew.h usability... no
checking GL/glew.h presence... no
checking for GL/glew.h... no
configure: error: GLEW required

Accordingly, if I emerge media-libs/glew (either stable or latest ~amd64 version) it works.

With USE="-egl -gles1 -gles2" no glew is necessary.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="egl gles1 gles2" emerge -1v =mesa-progs-9999
Actual Results:
configure: error: GLEW required

Expected Results:
It should depend on media-libs/glew if any USE flag is set.

Confirmed. I see that I missed a few other dependencies as well. Thanks for the bug report, I'll fix this today.
Comment 2 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2012-09-17 17:38:30 UTC
Ugh, so nothing /actually/ needs libGLEW or libGLU. The build system is stupid and links in -lGLEW -lGLU. If no USE flag it set, we just compile glxgears/glxinfo manually, which doesn't use the build system, so no -lGLEW -lGLU.
Comment 3 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2012-09-17 18:11:23 UTC
Okay, fixed.

Nothing installed uses GLEW or GLU, but if we're building EGL (or GLESv1 or v2) programs then we have to use the autotools build system which checks for GLEW and GLU.

As a result, I've put them in DEPEND only. Maybe I can fix this upsteam sometime.

Again, thanks for the report!
