Normally I don't add the prereleases to the tree unless there is a very good reason to. 4.06_pre11 was an exception due to linux-headers compatibility.

I hope this doesn’t come off as a bug hijack, but you may want to start looking at the 6.00 pre release: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/6.00/syslinux-6.00-pre1.tar.bz2 The ebuild will require significant updates for it. And perhaps an EAPI update, at least to grab the .xz version instead of the noticeably larger bz2 version.
