Portage is reproducibly unable to fetch media-gfx/picasa2.7.3736.15 and media-gfx/picasa-3.0.0.57.4402.0_beta. I guess the reason for that error is, that Google has officially announced the end of Picasa for Linux in April 2012 ( http://googleblog.blogspot.de/ - "We launched a WINE-based version of Picasa for Linux in 2006 as a Google Labs project. As we continue to enhance Picasa, it has become difficult to maintain parity on the Linux version. So today, we’re deprecating Picasa for Linux and will not be maintaining it moving forward. Users who have downloaded and installed older versions of Picasa for Linux can continue to use them, though we won’t be making any further updates.") My Personal 2 cents: why is this marked as STABLE? how can it possibly be stable when it's still considered beta by the developers? this makes no sense. also, since i've read somewhere, and echoed again by Yann, that Linux support for Picasa is now doomed... Picasa is anything but stable. this goes for a number of beta packages ive seen in portage marked as stable. end of rant.
Since google has taken the file away, might as well take it out of portage, or mirror on gentoo repos. I've never had a problem with it.. Always seems to work well even though I'm constantly hacking away at the rest of my system. Difficult to maintain = Lazy Google
"As we continue to enhance Picasa, it has become difficult to maintain parity on the Linux version." PlayonLinux runs latest version 3.9 Perhaps just make the ebuild with elog message that it's deprecated and to use playonlinux instead.
Package removed.
