Said patch was incorporated over a year ago to use the freedesktop shared MIME-info database specification instead of a less used/maintained mime.types file. Luzero made the patch which afaik hasn't been reworked updated in a while. The patch seemed to be in the right direction at the time, but maybe the decision needs revisited.
