Description A. Person 2012-09-06 07:50:34 UTC
Gentoo prints a message about lightdm and xdm failing to stop if I reboot from the lightdm menu or the xfce4 menu. If I issue 'reboot' as root from an xterm within xfce4, lightdm stops fine. I've brought this to the lightdm mailing list, but it was indicated as a Gentoo problem there:

weird, it works for me. What do you mean "if I reboot from the lightdm menu or the xfce4 menu". Which xfc4 menu? lightdm is a DM so it shouldn't matter whether you use lxde, xfce, gnome or anything else when you are in the lightdm welcome screen. Do I miss something?

I mean lightdm fails to stop if I reboot from the lightdm welcome screen, or if I reboot from the xfce4 "Action Buttons" reboot button while logged into an xfce4 session as a user.

I can't reproduce it. How do you start lightdm? Do you use the xdm init script? Can you paste your /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf file?

I start xdm in the default runlevel and I have in /etc/conf.d/xdm:

DISPLAYMANAGER="lightdm"

Here are all of my uncommented lines in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf:

greeter-hide-users=true
greeter-allow-guest=false
user-session=xfce
allow-guest=false
session-wrapper=/etc/lightdm/Xsession

Running a stable amd64 keyworded system here. Ran into the exact same thing yesterday when I installed lightdm (lightdm-1.0.11). Then I found this bug report on launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/975884

As mentioned in post #7, upgrading dev-libs/glib from 2.30.3 to 2.32.3 fixes the problem.

gilb-2.32.3 fixed it, thanks!

We probably need to stabilize a newer version then
