I downgraded to cups-1.5.3 and hplip-3.12.4 segfaults as well
Sorry, this seems to be a problem with PyQt4. I am using the latest snapshots from the qt overlay. Downgrading to the latest sip/PyQt4 releases fixes the problem. Sorry for the noise.
