How was this a bug??

./configure doesn't use pkg-config, and AFAIK we don't need to have pkg-config as a dependency in order to install .pc files do we? Same way we don't need openrc to have /etc/init.d/ files installed, or have systemd for systemd unit files...

I vote to reverse the commit and remove the dep...

Automatic .la removal uses pkg-config to expand variables in .pc file to get provided library list.

... ok that one's new to me.

I take it, it doesn't matter that this package doesn't and will never have .la files? :)

Hmm, I guess that could be actually change for the pkg-config branch to run only when there's at least a single .la file for consideration.

It might also be worth considering to make autotools-utils.eclass (or eutils.eclass) add virtual/pkgconfig to DEPEND, since it's that eclass which is (indirectly) forcing the prune_libtool_files call in src_install..

It doesn't make sense to me to require it in each ebuild just because autotools-uitls.eclass is inherited.

Well, it's necessary only if the package installs .pc files.

Hey it's not me who argued it wasn't a complete screw up.

Guess somebody should think more about his mistakes rather than insulting those who report their mistakes.

Guess somebody should spend more time doing useful stuff rather than being an arrogant jerk.

That would be you, I assume.

Guess again. I'll give you a tip: it is a person who just complains believing that making people angry will actually increase their productivity and make all issues disappear.

Why instead of wasting people's time by fixing packages one by one you don't go back to _the main bug_ and start looking into fixing it?

"Really, mister? I screwed up not following my own requirement, that's a fact."

These are your words.

"You seem to forget your own requirements pretty often, hm?"

These are mine.

Now before I start to be pissed off enough to ask somebody else to turn you down a notch, can you admit that the code committed to eutils eclass is messed up and that requirement shouldn't be there to begin with?

Oh, sorry I wasted *your* time by committing the fix. I didn't know you are running CVS by hand, sorry.

Yes, the requirement is confusing. Noone catched the problem when the code was posted for review. Feel free to suggest a better solution.

Until then, I believe that fixing the package to comply with the requirement is the correct solution.
