If I want to eject my cdrom (Sony Electronics CDU611-F) the cdrom opens (for about 1 sec), then closes (for about 3 sec), then open ... and finally closes and after this the eject-program terminates. I think it should simply open the cdrom and terminate afterwards with the open cdrom Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. eject 2. 3. Actual Results: the cdrom opens (for about 1 sec), then closes (for about 3 sec), then open ... and finally closes and after this the eject-program terminates. Expected Results: I think it should simply open the cdrom and terminate afterwards with the open cdrom Portage 2.0.50-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.3, glibc-2.3.3_pre20040207-r0, 2.4.24) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.24 i686 Pentium III (Coppermine) Gentoo Base System version 1.4.3.13 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r3 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-mcpu=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-mcpu=pentium3 -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs buildpkg ccache cvs distcc keeptemp keepwork noauto noclean notitles sandbox userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.inode.at http://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/ftp/mirror/gentoo http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X apm arts avi berkdb crypt cups encode esd foomaticdb gd gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 imlib java jpeg libg++ libwww mad mikmod motif mozilla mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png postgres python qt quicktime readline sasl sdl slang spell ssl svga tcpd tiff truetype wmf x86 xml2 xmms xv zlib"
sounds like a kernel problem ... still happens with say 2.6.x or 2.4.27 ?
I have at the moment kernel 2.6.8. Remarkably the behaviour changed to the following: the cdrom opens (for about 2 sec), then closes and after this the eject-program terminates. Unfortunately this is still not the expected behaviour.
sounds like misbehaving kernel then ...
Sounds like an upstream bug. Could you please file a report at http://bugzilla.kernel.org ?
