Description Paweł Hajdan, Jr. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-31 21:33:31 UTC
Is it OK to stabilize =x11-misc/bbsload-0.2.9 ?

If so, please CC all arches which have stable keywords

for older versions of this package and add STABLEREQ keyword

to the bug.
Comment 1 Michael Weber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-08-04 10:11:06 UTC

ago@amd64box ~ $ bbsload
blackbox: couldn't load default font. please check to
make sure the necessary font is installed '-*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*'

@amd64: works for any of you?

Comment 6 Vicente Olivert Riera (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-08-13 09:20:30 UTC
I have tried to install media-fonts/liberation-fonts , because the description of that package says "GPL-2 Helvetica/Times/Courier replacement TrueType font set, courtesy of Red Hat", but I still getting the same error.
Comment 7 Vicente Olivert Riera (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-08-13 12:34:17 UTC
I have installed all packages under media-fonts category:

emerge $(eix -C media-fonts --stable --only-names --only-in-overlay gentoo)

but I still getting the same error.
Comment 8 Johannes Huber (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-08-16 15:16:49 UTC
Same runtime error on x86, stable keywords dropped.

@maintainer: maybe its time to stop the stabilization and give the package the last rite
Comment 9 Raúl Porcel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-09-09 15:14:54 UTC
sparc keywords dropped
Comment 11 James Cloos 2012-11-24 23:44:34 UTC
The package obviously uses server-side fonts.

There is nothing wrong with that; it is not a bug in the software.

Just install server-side fonts on your xserver box if you want to use x client apps which require them.

What exact package provides them? Also, why do you still need this old 2003 system load monitor? Don't you have any alternative?

> ppc done

I have installed it on ppc, and then I tried to launch it and nothing happens. I don't see any system load monitor.
I tried it from fluxbox and blackbox with the same result: nothing.

Is it working for you? Can I see an screenshot?
Comment 17 Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2012-12-09 15:08:56 UTC

Same behaviour on amd64 and x86. To avoid the problem of...

blackbox: couldn't load default font. please check to
make sure the necessary font is installed '-*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*'

...you need to add that font. You can use this script:

#!/bin/bash
for i in /usr/share/fonts/*
do
    xset +fp "$i"
done
xset fp rehash
