I got X session crashing on glx applications. I've restarted after a kernel upgrade to 3.5 but this might not be the reason as i've gone many months without rebooting. All I can see in dmesg is glxgears[25704]: segfault at c ip b73c0a74 sp bf8e443c error 4 in libxcb-glx.so.0.0.0[b73b5000+18000] reemerged mesa , libxcp and all x11-drivers/* nothing helps vasko What exactly crashes? The X server? Your desktop session? Please provide logs that show the crash.
I'm thrown back to kdm the only log line i see is glxgears[25704]: segfault at c ip b73c0a74 sp bf8e443c error 4 in libxcb-glx.so.0.0.0[b73b5000+18000] or something of that kind. :(
Tested some more. No trace of error on Xorg.0.log. It's not kernel-related as I can reproduce it with 3.4.2-r1
(In reply to comment #4) > No trace of error on Xorg.0.log. So it's not the X server that crashes. Remains the desktop session (its errors are logged to ~/.xsession-errors).
So .. I kill the session opening a firefox .. this is what I think is "last" in .xsession-error klauncher(2866)/kio (KLauncher) KLauncher::processRequestReturn: "/usr/bin/firefox-bin" (pid 29127) up and running. https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428352 This seems related
> Error: cannot open display: :0 This is usually an indication that the X server terminated (voluntarily or not).
Fixed in later portage
