lrzip-0.611 builds fine and my locale settings seem sane (en_GB.UTF-8). Same error happens with two different amd64 machines.

From the ebuild:

DOCS="" # let package handle docs

Why is that set? (Also, why doesn't paludis' dodoc simply iterate over all the array's elements, which happens to be none? ;-)

It's a left-over from my testing various ways to let the docs end up in the right place. I will remove it.

This is the real bug. Portage has no problems with it.
