I'm opening this bug to track the work about moving make.conf and make.profile from /etc to /etc/portage in the stages. This will start by affecting the weekly builds.

 * update catalyst. The required changes[1][2] submitted by Jeremy were already committed to the repository.
 * release catalyst. This will be done in a few days as catalyst-2.0.10.
 * news item. A proposal was sent to the gentoo-dev ml[3].
 * update installation handbook

Is anything else missing in this list?

Initial proposal for handbook update

This is a first patch to update the handbook for this change.
Comment 2 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-24 12:14:17 UTC
Since the change itself is not intrusive and already supported, I went ahead and committed the changes (together with the changes on non-handbook, GDP-maintained documents). Thanks for the patch!

I've commited the news item and catalyst-2.0.11 was marked stable, so I'm closing this as fixed.
Thanks to everyone that helped with this.
