Lyx a tex-document processor (http://www.lyx.org) in version 1.3.4 came out at 14. February 2004. It should be included in portage.
It's already there. Pleare run `emerge sync` and try again.

Which rsync server are you using? Please submit `emerge info`. I committed it several days ago, and now I can obtain it from rsync server (I'm using rsync4.jp.gentoo.org). I guess this is because your rsync server is out of date due to coming 2004.0 release. You can grab the latest ebuild at http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/app-office/lyx/

It is in portage. It's just ~masked. Please look at: /usr/portage/app-office/lyx/ and you will see the lyx-1.3.4 ebuild in there. You can install it just like any other ~masked package. closing as invalid.
