OpenOffice.org does not handle TrueType fonts when invoked as 'soffice', but it handles them when invoked as 'swriter'. Times New Roman is not anti-aliased (presumable because it is replaced with some other font) and other TrueType fonts do not appear in the menu. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: soffice [filename] Actual Results: File is displayed without anti-aliasing fonts and TrueType fonts do not appear in the menu. Openoffice does not provide the soffice or swriter binaries in the path at all. Try to use the ooffice wrapper and make sure that you have no stray rubbish around
Ah, thanks. That did the trick. I had previously created a symbolic link /usr/bin/sofficee -> /usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.1.0/program/soffice My gnome-vfs.applications contains the following lines; is this normal? Obviously I should replace command=soffice with command=ooffice. openoffice command=soffice name=OpenOffice.org can_open_multiple_files=true expects_uris=false requires_terminal=false
I'm not really a gnome guy, but openoffice does offer gnome integration. In this case soffice should be replaced with ooffice. In any case, great that it works
