Output from using "blender -d"

media-gfx/blender-2.63a-r2 is installed on my system using portage. It compiles and installs without any problems. When the program is started it is missing the top level menu options.

I will put the settings below and also a copy of the output when using the debug option in blender.

I downloaded the blender binary, 2.63, as well as the source code from the blender web site. When I ran the binary I can see the top level menu options. When I built blender from their package and ran the resulting binary I could see the top level menu options. In both cases the program was functional and usable. This does not appear to be a driver issue.

I have the following use settings:

=dev-cpp/eigen-3.0.5 ~amd64
=media-gfx/blender-2.63a-r2 ~amd64
=sci-physics/bullet-2.80 ~amd64
media-libs/opencollada ~amd64
=media-libs/lib3ds-1.3.0 ~amd64

System info:

localhost portage # emerge --info =media-gfx/blender-2.63a-r2
Portage 2.1.10.65 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.5.3, glibc-2.14.1-r3, 3.3.8-gentoo x86_64)

I forgot to add one thing. I have removed the ~/.blender/2.63 directory and run the portage installed blender. Still no menus appear.

When I run the binary from the blender site it creates a new ~/.blender/2.63 directory. Again, I can see the top level menu options. When I try to run the portage installed blender there are no menu options.

Can you try logging out and back in and see if it works? Now blender depends on a couple environment variables so it might require a new profile to work... if that's the case I'll add some logs to the ebuild itself.
Comment 3 Maxim Kachur 2012-07-21 08:41:29 UTC
Had the same problem. Relogin solved it but now I have another problem: crash on changing current position on timeline in VSE but I think it's an another bug.
Comment 4 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-21 14:08:08 UTC
Can you try getting a backtrace out of it? I'll add the notice in a moment.
Comment 5 Kelly Black 2012-07-23 14:55:54 UTC
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. I have a job running that I cannot kill until it is done. I will try this at home this evening and let you know how it goes.
Comment 6 Kelly Black 2012-07-23 21:30:16 UTC
I just rebooted my machine at home and started blender. The menus and side bars magically apeared. That sorted out the problem.

Thank you for your attention to this and thank you for your work on the ebuilds! Having this available so easily is a huge help for me.
