The Lato font which is being more and more used on internet is broken (see the screen capture). At first i thought this was a firefox bug and reported it there, but then they suggested me to install the font and i saw that the font was broken not only on firefox but all the system. Works fine for me. I'm not sure where the problem might be: your font configuration, or some library used for font rendering, e.g. cairo. This may be hard to debug...
Thanks for the hint, i've tracked it down to =media-libs/freetype-2.4.9-r1 After a sync and an upgrade to 2.4.10 the font shows correctly.
