Description John Haiducek 2004-02-23 13:20:48 UTC
Occasionally when I return to my system after leaving it alone for a while (an hour or two or overnight) I find the display frozen and the system unresponsive. I cannot connect to the computer over the LAN. I resort to using the power switch. I can identify in /var/log/messages the times that this happens because I see a boot sequence with no "init: Switching to runlevel:6" preceding it, but I see nothing else unusual.

Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

I am running XFree86, the gnome-panel, Openbox3, and xscreensaver at the times
this occurs.

I am using apm, but apm should not have tried to suspend or hibernate the
computer under these conditions, nor have I seen apm cause a crash under other
circumstances.

The system is an IBM ThinkPad T30

Comment 1 Jason Cox (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-13 21:20:05 UTC
Could you try a newer kernl and see if that fixes it? Could you also try disabling apm if a newer kernel doesn't fix it?
Comment 2 Jason Cox (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-04-16 17:33:04 UTC
He's gone. No repsonse. Assuming fixed.
