Having struggled to be able to type the Euro symbol in Gentoo, I suggest the following change to /etc/rc.conf: replace : # The maps to load for extended keyboards. Most users will leave this as is. with: # The maps to load for extended keyboards. Keymaps can be found in # /usr/share/keymaps. Most users will leave this as is, but if you, for # example, want to be able to type the Euro symbol by pressing <Alt-E>, # you'll use: #EXTENDED_KEYMAPS="euro" # To use <AltGr-5> for the Euro you'd use euro1; for <AltGr-4>, euro2. # To get it displayed, use a latin0 (i.e., latin9) font for CONSOLEFONT. The installation documents do _not_ explain how to do this but they do refer to this file.
added euro to the example EXTENDED_KEYMAPS in cvs
