Hmm... the patch in question is in DOS format with CR LF line endings. That may be problematic.

What version of sys-devel/patch do you have installed?

Yes, it's with CRLFs 
The patch's version is 2.5.9

I ran dos2unix on the patch, should be fixed now.

You should really upgrade sys-apps/patch; 2.6.1 has been stable for months, and works fine with DOS format patches.
