Comment 1 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 15:55:31 UTC
build log and config.log please. The dep is clearly there so the Summary can't be right.
Comment 2 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 15:57:42 UTC
Build log is in URL, the config.log is not telling me much beside the fact that the file is not found.

And since you made me check the ebuild, the dep is only there with USE=snmp enabled... but what is supposed to disable snmp? There is no call to econf --disable-snmp or something like that.
Comment 3 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:05:16 UTC
What happened to attaching build logs?
Comment 4 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:06:33 UTC
checking for proc interface in /proc/net/dev... no

Still need the config.log.
Comment 5 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:08:40 UTC
The moment idl0r falls in love with me enough to allow me to pre-fill a "attach this URL here to the bug" in the templates, you'll see them attached on bug opening. Otherwise xarthisius and chithanh were trying to have a script process the bugs where there's the URL: set and replace them with an attached copy.

Sorry, but having to download the log from the remote server to my local box to attach it is not feasible, especially given that some logs are even too big for bugzilla without compression...
Comment 6 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:09:22 UTC
Uh I see what's going on there.. this is grsec kernel, with FEATURES=userpriv — which means it _can't_ access /proc/net/dev during ./configure.
Comment 7 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:23:13 UTC
configure has a --with-proc[=FILE] switch, so we could work around that, perhaps, with a faux FILE.
Comment 8 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:35:34 UTC
Short of rewriting the build system:

Comment 9 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 16:38:02 UTC
The problem is that they then use proc-net-dev as define for the file :(

Let me see if I can quickly hack something more solid.

This is a tad hacky, but makes sure that --with-proc=/proc/net/dev does _not_ verify that it can access it. Also you need to use --without-snmp to avoid the automagic dep, not --enable, sorry I didn't verify that beforehand.

Try local gathering, try (net-)snmp, if neither then fail

Maybe this is a more sane approach.
Comment 12 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-10 18:02:54 UTC
That would still fail with USE=-snmp FEATURES=userpriv and grsec, wouldn't it?

Forgot to incorporate your patch.

That latest patch is in the tree now. Someone might want to test this and then close the bug report.
