install-powerpc-minimal-20120330.iso didn't boot as well.
install-powerpc-minimal-20101212.iso boots as expected.

With install-powerpc-minimal-20101212.iso I could install the System with Gentoo Linux PPC64 (64-bit-userland) Everything works fine, execpt that I couldn't get any 3.x.x-Kernel running. Currently I use Linux Kernel 2.6.39.4 from kernel.org.

How did it fail to boot?
If you can't install a 3.0 kernel on ppc, then maybe the boot issue is related to that.

$ grep KEYWORDS $(portageq portdir)/sys-kernel/gentoo-sources/gentoo* | grep " ppc "
/home/gentoo-scm/gentoo-x86/sys-kernel/gentoo-sources/gentoo-sources-3.2.1-r2.ebuild:KEYWORDS="alpha amd64 arm hppa ia64 ppc ppc64 s390 sh sparc x86"
Comment 3 Michael Volland 2012-07-09 10:17:24 UTC
cd with install-powerpc-minimal-20120624.iso

boot:

tab shows 3 bootable kernel images: G5   G5-ttyS0,57600    ppc32

boot: G5
Please wait, loading kernel...

Then black on white:

done
found display  /pcif0,f0000000/NVDA,Parent@0/NVDA,Display-G@1, opening... done
copying OF device tree...
Building dt strings...
Building dt structure...
Device tree strings 0x0000000002681000 -> 0x000000000268278d
Device tree struct  0x0000000002683000 -> 0x0000000002691000
Calling quiesce...
returning from prom_init

Then the G5 gets noisy and that's it.

@ppc:

Any ideas?
Comment 5 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2012-12-24 05:41:44 UTC
ping?
Comment 6 Michael Volland 2012-12-24 09:36:09 UTC
Never
ping never worked with 3.x - kernels
I rechecked it today with image
install-powerpc-minimal-20120909.iso

For kernels >= 3.0 also see:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-945822.html
The output is different. The Kernel gets loaded there.
But no message from init, openrc, udev.
Comment 7 Matt Turner gentoo-dev 2018-09-18 19:28:02 UTC
Please try the current ISO:
https://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/ppc/current-iso/https://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/ppc/current-iso/

It works on my PowerMac G5.
