Description Davin Boling 2004-02-22 09:47:20 UTC
Versions of Blender >2.25 do not contain the realtime game engine due to licensing issues. However, 2.25 (Blender Publisher) itself is freely available for download at the official website. Some features require a "key" before they are unlocked, but such a key is freely available for download from the same page. It would be nice if the ebuild also installed this key by default, but that's just a nice thought.

I am requesting a seperate blender-publisher ebuild for those who want to experiment with Blender's realtime engine, without having to wait for its complete rewrite (which is required to circumvent the forementioned licensing issues)

The blender-publisher ebuild should be designed to that it can co-exist with the normal blender package. This allows a designer to use the latest version of blender for the majority of their work, and the older blender-publisher for its realtime engine. This is possible in Windows, since by default the programs install to different locations. And if it's possible in Windows, why should we let them have all the fun?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
NA

This request is obseleted by the recent release of Blender 2.33, which re-incorporates the realtime game engine. This ebuild would now serve no purpose.
