Description Niklas Johansson 2012-07-05 14:45:08 UTC
I have a question in the http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/ldap-howto.xml guide.

It is writen:

"Now change /etc/ldap.conf to read:"

Then in the following section we copy a with the same name but located elsewhere.

"Next, copy over the (OpenLDAP) ldap.conf file from the server to the client so the clients are aware of the LDAP environment:

scp ldap-server:/etc/openldap/ldap.conf /etc/openldap"

I am very new to ldap but so I might be totally of base here but, is it correct to edit a file in /etc and then move a file that is located in /etc/openldap

Sorry if I am wasting your time.

robin, any comment on this? is it supposed to be /etc/openldap/ldap.conf everywhere, or /etc/ldap.conf?

The instructions are correct.
There are two seperate files named ldap.conf, with different syntax.

/etc/ldap.conf - used by nss_ldap, pam_ldap
/etc/openldap/ldap.conf - used by OpenLDAP and libraries.
