Bug #418375 added a mask for itext to the main portage tree, in preparation for its removal. At that time, no package depended on ispell, according to Tomáš Chvátal. However, bug #417173 introduced a number of new explicit dependencies for dev-libs/m17n-lib, with ispell being one of them, related to the spell USE flag. That change was committed after the masking. Please make sure that no package relies on a masked one. (Shouldn't repoman be able to check for such things?) As a short-term solution, spell-checking support might be dropped from m17n-lib. In the long run, one could investigate if aspell will serve as a replacement there as well.
